Letter From Paul Jehle
Bill:
I am unfortunately out of town at an event all day on Monday - but would have tried to be there. Though I can't write a large amount, I will simply submit the following paragraph that you could use any way in which you think applicable.
"I first met Sam Blumenfeld through his books in the 1970's. I then met him in 1982 at a conference I had helped organize for Christian educators. When I heard him share his testimony of seeing Christ and Christianity as the source of America's original educational system through research and then getting converted as a result, I was blessed. As an educator and research historian, along with being a Pastor, this was special to hear. But it was what God used Sam to do with what had happened in his heart that will live on as his legacy.
Sam was a man who knew the power of the pen. He knew it was mightier than the sword and also more powerful than tyranny. Sam knew something about such tyranny, especially intellectual control that kept children from reaching their full potential. He spent a lifetime attempting to free the next generation from the wrong methods of reading, writing and historical revisionism, as well as intellectually correcting their logical reasoning from the right premises. Sam was also a fireplug. Hearing Sam speak was an experience as his passion was evident, his concerns real, and his exposure of what he believed was wrong clear. It was so clear that at times it was offensive to those in an audience who were unprepared for his conclusions. But Sam was a prophet in the Biblical sense, warning others of the problems inherent in our increasingly centralized society.
Sam's books, articles and speeches were well researched, cogent and often convicting as well as moving us all to action for the sake of others. He will be sorely missed, but is now literally preaching to the choir. God bless you Sam, you know now as you have been known. It is now our turn to carry on with the torch of liberty in and through Christ as it affects education and historical contextual understanding. May we do so for the glory of God and advancement of the Kingdom of Christ that we might all hear what he likely has heard "well done, good and faithful servant."
